Current Solar Wind Conditions... The Sun is a magnetized body of gas that is constantly expelling highly ionized plama into space. This plasma is called the Solar Wind. The Earth is immersed within the Solar Wind and is protected from the harmful plasma by the Earth's own magnetic field. Occasionally, when the Sun's magnetic field lines up properly with the Earth's magnetic reconnection occurs and the Solar Wind can penetrate into the Earth's atmosphere as the Aurora.
